description_en: Genus, closely related to Laelia, of about 12-15 species of large, evergreen, epiphytic or lithophytic orchids from rainforest and moist cliffs or rocks, at low to medium altitudes in the West Indies and tropical America. They have stout, elongated, spindle-shaped to cylindrical, sometimes hollow pseudobulbs, each with 1-3 leathery, semi-rigid, ovate to oblong leaves. Racemes or panicles of showy flowers are produced from the tips of the pseudobulbs, and may be extremely long.
