Description (Japanese): 雄性両性花同株。谷間の湿地に自生が見られる。冬、頂芽が裸芽で過ごすことがある。葉は初め毛に包まれているが、成葉では毛がなくなる。 日本原産の落葉小高木で、高さ10 mになり、カエデとしては珍しく欠刻のない単葉の丸い葉をもつ。

Description: A tree bears male and bisexual flowers on the same plant. It grows wild in wet sites in mountainous valley. There are usually 2-pairs of bud scales on the winter terminal buds, but sometimes we can find one without scales. In the beginning, leaves are covered with sericeous hairs and they disappear when mature.
