Description (Japanese): 若木の樹皮は名前のような縞が入る。老木になると灰褐色になり縞も薄らぐ。成長期の葉は５裂になるが後に３裂になることもある。葉裏に毛が多い。自然の中でも葉に斑が入るものが見つかっている。雌雄は成長とともに雄樹から雌樹に性転換をする。地植えには適応性があり成長も早い。秋は木によって黄色から真っ赤になるものがある。
Description: The bark of young trees has a stripe pattern like a striped melon. Becoming older, the bark color becomes grayish brown with faint stripes. leaves at the growing sage are 5-lobed, later sometimes 3-lobed, and very hairy on leaf underside. The plants with variegated leaves are sometimes found. Sex reversal from make to female occurs with age. The species is suitable for planting in the ground. Autumn foliage colors vary from yellow to bright red depending on the tree.
