Description (Japanese): 丈夫な多年草の地生ランで、しばしば実生苗が勝手に生えてくる。4〜5月に30〜50cmの花茎を伸ばし、複数の花をつけ、よく着果する。野生型は紫紅色で、口紅シランと呼ばれる唇弁だけ着色する系統や白花、青花の変異がある。
