Description (Japanese): 雌雄同株。15mにもなる木。葉幅2-7cm。太平洋側に多く自生を見る。春の芽出しの色に変化があり、細い枝が多く、優しい姿になるので庭木として多く用いられている。葉の形は大きく変わらないが、大きさには幅があるので園芸品種も多い。

Description: A monoecious tree, growing up to 15m high. The leaves are 2–7cm wide. This is much more common in the wild on the Pacific Ocean side and is planted in the garden for its wonderfully variable foliage color in spring, and elegant form of a tree with thin branchlets. There are at present a large number of cultivars in cultivation as their leaf size varies greatly.
