Description (Japanese): 高さ30〜80cmになる多年草。花（頭状花序）は黄色で直径2.5cm内外、10〜12月に咲く。葉は５中裂、葉裏は淡緑色で丁字状毛がある。キクタニギクとともにキク科のモデル植物として研究によく使われる。変異が大きく、多くの変種が記載されているが、キュー植物園のPlants of the World Onlineでは中国湖北省の1変種のみが採用されており、その他はすべて基本変種の異名となっている。
