形態的によく似たIpheion recurvifolium とは別種。Sassone et al. (2021) では以下の系統樹が得られている。

しかし、著者はIpheion 3種には形態的な共有派生形質（苞の先端が２裂するなど）が存在するので、更なる分析結果が出るまではIpheion を当面認めることを主張している。
