Description (Japanese): 高さ6m、幹の直径10 cm以上になる高木で、春にピンク色の花をつける。R. roxburghiiと同種とされることもあるが、サンショウバラは高木、葉軸が有毛、小葉の先端が尖鋭頭〜鋭頭、葉縁が細鋸歯縁などの点で区別できる。
