Description (Japanese): 北海道と東北から島根県の日本海側に自生。葉が5裂で大きく横に長い。若い枝が赤いのでこの名前が付いた。緑色の枝も多くある。かなり高木になる。翼果の羽の角度は90度から交差したものまである。

Description: This species is found in Hokkaido and districts from Tohoku to Shimane-ken on Japan Sea side. The leaves are 5-lobed, large and horizontally long. The Japanese name, Aka itaya, has its origin in red branches of young shoots, however, the green ones also exist. It grows as a medium tree. The key fruit has wings diverging at right or acute angles.
