description_en: Genus of about 40 species of variable, semi-evergreen, shrub- and tree-like perennials found in low, often hilly terrain from the Colorado Desert, USA, south to tropical Central America. They usually have stout trunks or stems; the succulent species are relatively fleshy. Pinnate, alternate leaves are clustered near the stem tips. Insignificant, usually white flowers are borne singly or in few-flowered cymes at the stem tips in summer, followed by single-seeded, capsular or fleshy fruits. Burseras may be treated as bonsai plants. In frost-prone areas, grow in a temperate greenhouse; in warmer areas, use in a desert garden.
