description_en: Genus of about 6 species of tree-like, perennial succulents from dry regions of S.W. and S. Madagascar. They have mainly thick, fleshy trunks and often thorny stems. The fleshy leaves are shed in dry periods and are apparent only during the growing season. The unisexual flowers are borne in umbel-like cymes. Where temperatures fall below 15°C (59°F), grow in a temperate or warm greenhouse. In warmer climates, grow in a desert garden.
