description_en: Genus of about 30 species of aromatic perennials from dry, often hilly habitats in China, Japan, USA, and Mexico. Most are stiffly erect, bushy plants, with lance-shaped to ovate, greyish green leaves, borne in opposite pairs. Spikes of long-lasting, small, 2-lipped, tubular flowers are produced in whorls from midsummer to autumn. They are suitable for a mixed border; A. barberi and A. mexicana may also be grown as annuals in frost-prone areas.
