description_en: Genus of over 90 species of deciduous, perennial succulents, sometimes semi-evergreen, with caudiciform rootstocks and vine-like climbers with thin, thorny, tendril-bearing stems; they are found in scrub or desert in Africa, Madagascar, and Burma, All have alternate, palmate or simple leaves. The axillary cymes of tiny, sometimes scented flowers, to 1cm (1/2in) across, are followed by conical to obovoid, capsular, yellow, green, or red fruits, 2-4cm (3/4-1 1/2in) long. Where temperatures fall below 15°C (59°F), grow in a warm greenhouse; in warmer regions, grow in a desert garden.
