description_en: Genus of 3-5 species of simple, perennial cacti found in humid, moist areas in the mountains of E. Brazil. The mostly spherical to cylindrical stems have smooth or finely warty, sometimes scaly ribs, and spiny areoles. Diurnal, solitary, funnel-shaped yellow flowers are produced near the crown in summer. In areas where temperatures drop below 15°C (59°F), grow in a warm greenhouse; in warmer climates, they are useful in a border.
