description_en: Genus of about 30 species of spreading to erect, evergreen, sometimes semi-evergreen perennials and shrubs, found on rock outcrops, rocky areas of prairies, and alluvial soils in arid and semi-arid areas of North and South America. The alternate, entire or lobed leaves are lance-shaped to rounded, 2.5-11cm (1-4 1/2in) long, often with toothed margins. They are usually cultivated for their attractive, funnel- or cup-shaped, yellow, orange, pink, or red flowers, either solitary and axillary, or borne in terminal or axillary racemes or spikes. Grow in a sunny border or on a bank. In frost-prone areas, grow tender species in a cool greenhouse.
