distribution_en:
description_en: Genus of 180 species of deciduous, terrestrial ferns found mainly in moist woodland or forest in temperate and tropical regions of the world. They have erect or creeping, sometimes branched rhizomes. Fronds are normally pinnate to 3-pinnate or pinnatifid, but in a few species are simple. Sori form in 2 rows and are usually covered by J-shaped indusia. Lady ferns tolerate all but dry conditions, and are useful for a range of sites, from a shady border to a woodland setting. In frost-prone areas, grow the tropical species as houseplants or in a warm greenhouse. A. niponicum is also suitable for a cool greenhouse or conservatory.
