description_en: Genus of about 25 species of woody, deciduous climbers and a few shrubs from woodland in Asia and North America. They are cultivated for their attractive foliage, which often colours well, turning red and yellow in autumn; the leaves are alternate, simple, palmate or pinnate, often lobed or toothed, with clinging tendrils on the stems opposite the leaves. They are also valued for their sometimes ornamental, spherical or top-shaped berries, which develop from insignificant cymes of small green flowers. The climbers are excellent for covering a wall, fence, pergola, old tree stump, or tree. If grown on house walls, keep clear of gutters and roof tiles. A. brevipedunculata ’Elegans’ may also be grown as a houseplant.
hardiness_en: Fully hardy to frost hardy.
