description_en: Genus of 8 species of rhizomatous woodland perennials from temperate regions of the N. hemisphere. Grown mainly for their foliage and fruit, they have 2-, 3-, or 5-ternate, toothed leaves and usually terminal, compact, fluffy, spherical to ovoid racemes of small white flowers with prominent stamens, followed by longer clusters of colourful berries. Grow in a woodland garden, or in a shady mixed or herbaceous border. The berries are highly toxic if ingested.
