description_en: Genus of about 8 species of deciduous trees or shrubs occurring in woodland in E. Asia. Maackias are cultivated both for their foliage and flowers. The leaves are alternate and pinnate, each with up to 17 pairs of leaflets and a single terminal one. The small, pea-like flowers are produced in dense, terminal racemes or panicles in summer, and are followed by compressed, linear-oblong seed pods. Maackias are unusual specimen trees.
