Distribution en: E. Himalaya to China and W. Malesia, E. Canada to Central America
Description en: Genus of about 5 species of deciduous trees from woodland and swampland in E. Asia and E. North America. Leaves are simple and alternate. Small, inconspicuous green flowers, borne in clusters in early summer, are followed by small, ovoid blue fruits, about 1cm (1/2in) long. Grown for their attractive foliage and brilliant autumn colour, they are ideal as specimen trees or in group plantings, and are effective near water.
Hardiness en: Fully hardy, but do best in areas with hot summers.

Propagation en: Sow seed in a seedbed in autumn. Take greenwood cuttings in early summer, or semi-ripe cuttings in midsummer.
