description_en: Genus of about 40 species of mainly deciduous, twining climbers with alternate, simple leaves, found among shrubs in areas of light forest in E. Asia. They are valued for their ornamental, sometimes variegated foliage, their cup-shaped, occasionally scented flowers, produced singly or in axillary cymes in summer, and their edible fruits, which ripen in autumn. Train against a wall or into a tree. Both male and female plants are usually needed to obtain fruit, although some self-fertile cultivars are available for commercial fruit production. In frost-prone areas, A. deliciosa will produce fruit if grown in a sheltered garden or cool greenhouse.

hardiness_en: Frost hardy to fully hardy; A. deliciosa is frost hardy unless the wood has been well ripened in summer.
