description_en: Genus of about 20 species of woody, twining, evergreen climbers from forest in E. and S.E. Asia. They are grown for their fleshy fruits and attractive, simple, glossy leaves, arranged alternately. Solitary, cup-shaped flowers are usually produced in the leaf axils; both male and female flowers, borne on separate plants, are required to produce the fruits. K. japonica, the only species commonly cultivated, is best grown in a sheltered position where it can be trained against a wall or pillar, or through a large shrub.
