Description en: Genus of 150 species of bushy annuals and evergreen shrubs from sandy, free-draining soils on plains and in mountain valleys in tropical and subtropical zones worldwide. Only the annuals are commonly cultivated; they are valued for their terminal racemes of spider-like, 4-petalled flowers, with prominent stamens, which are borne above 3- to 7-palmate leaves. Grow in a summer flower border or as a seasonal filler for a mixed or herbaceous border. Flowers for cutting in summer may also be grown in a cool greenhouse.
