distribution_en: Temp. Northern Hemisphere, NW. Africa
description_en: Genus of 10 or more species of rhizomatous perennials from damp habitats, such as streamsides and wet ditches, in N. temperate regions, except F. vulgaris, which thrives on dry, chalky grassland. The pinnate, alternate leaves have shallowly or palmately lobed terminal leaflets and smaller lateral leaflets, hairless or softly hairy beneath. Plumes of tiny, fluffy, red, pink, or white flowers are borne from late spring to late summer, mainly in dense, cyme-like corymbs, on single or branched stems well above the foliage. Most are suitable for naturalizing in a woodland garden, or for moist sites. Grow F. vulgaris in a sunny site in a border.
hardiness_en: Fully hardy.
