They have simple, alternate leaves, 0.4-2.5cm (1/8-1in) long, and are cultivated mainly for their corymb-like racemes of cross-shaped, 4-petalled, yellow or white flowers, produced in early summer. They are suitable for growing in a rock garden, at the front of a mixed border, or in wall crevices.
