description_en: Genus of about 900-1,400 species of deciduous, semi-evergreen, or evergreen, epiphytic and terrestrial orchids widely distributed from India and S.E. Asia to New Guinea, Australia, and the Pacific islands; they occur in low-altitude rain-forest or montane forest over 2,000m (7,000ft). Elongated, stem-like pseudo-bulbs, sometimes branched, bear linear or lance-shaped to ovate leaves, either at the ends of the stems or 2-ranked. Single- to many-flowered racemes or panicles of showy flowers are produced from nodes along the stems, mainly in spring.
