Description en: Genus of 6-8 species of tall, evergreen, coniferous trees from forest in China, Taiwan, Japan, W. North America, and Mexico. The linear leaves, arranged radially on the shoots, develop from pointed, many-scaled buds that are unique to the genus. The female cones have protruding, trident-shaped bract scales; the male cones are cylindrical. They are imposing specimen trees.
