Description en: Genus of 12-15 erect to spreading, bushy, soft-stemmed, downy annuals, and some biennials, from dry, rocky slopes and canyons in Chile. They have alternate, pinnatisect to 3-pinnatisect or deeply lobed leaves. They are cultivated for their terminal cymes of showy, 2-lipped, orchid-like flowers of various colours, which are borne from spring to winter. In cool-temperate regions, grow either in a conservatory or cool greenhouse, as half-hardy annuals in a sheltered annual border, or in containers on a patio or in a courtyard garden. In warmer climates, grow in a border. They provide long-lasting cut flowers.
