Distribution en: Sudan to S. Africa
Description en: Genus of about 50 species of clump-forming, bulbous perennials from grassland to forest and cliffs in Africa. Most cultivated species are from South Africa. Usually deciduous, sometimes semi-evergreen, lance- to strap-shaped, mostly mid-green, basal leaves may be present or absent at flowering. Umbels of showy, tubular or tubular-bell-shaped to funnel-shaped flowers are produced on leafless stems mainly from spring to autumn. In frost-prone areas, grow in a cool or temperate greenhouse, or as a houseplant. Elsewhere, grow in a border or at the base of a warm, sunny wall.
