Description ja: ホオズキの旧属名 Physalis はアメリカ大陸産のグループに限定され、系統的に異なるホオズキは1種のみの別属となった。ホオズキの学名は A. officinarum Moench (旧学名 Physalis alkekengi L.)

Comment ja: ホオズキ1種とアメリカ大陸産の Physalis が別系統であることが示されたが、Physalis のタイプ種がホオズキであったため、100種近い種名を変更することとなるが、その属名 Herschelia がラン科の別の属としてかつて使われた名前のホモニムであることから、混乱を招くとして、Physalis pubescens L. をタイプ種として保存することが提案され (Whitson, 2011)、2012年に承認された (Applequist, 2012)。
