Oblong, pinnate leaves are produced in terminal tufts above a distinctive crownshaft; bowl-shaped, 3-petalled flowers are borne in panicles just beneath the foliage, and are followed by showy, red to orange fruits. In frost-prone climates, grow in a warm greenhouse or as houseplants. In warmer areas, use small species in a courtyard or border, and grow tall species on a lawn.
