The tiny, linear to rounded leaves are arranged alternately, in whorls, or in opposite pairs. Solitary, nodding, cross-, star-, or cup-shaped, 4-or 5-petalled flowers are borne from the upper leaf axils in spring and summer. In frost-prone regions, grow in a cool greenhouse.
