Distribution en: Macaronesia

Description en: Genus of one species of evergreen, woody climber from laurel forest in S. Spain, S.E. France, Sicily, N. Africa, and the Canary Islands. The true leaves are scale-like, their function taken over by leaf-like stems, on which clusters of tiny, star-shaped, 6-tepalled flowers are borne in late spring and early summer. These are sometimes followed by single-seeded, orange-red berries. In frost-prone areas, grow as a foliage plant In a cool green-house. In warmer climates, use to provide handsome foliage cover on a warm, sunny wall.
