description_en: Genus of 125-150 species of evergreen shrubs and trees from tropical woodland in Central and South America. The simple, leathery to paper-thin leaves are borne in opposite pairs or whorls of 3. They are grown for their small, tubular to salverform, sometimes fragrant flowers, each with 4-6 spreading petal lobes, which are borne in large, axillary or terminal panicles, cymes, or corymbs. Where temperatures fall below 12°C (54°F), grow in a temperate or warm greenhouse. In warmer areas, grow in a shrub border.
