description_en: Genus of about 120 species of single-or cluster-stemmed palms occurring in undergrowth in dense, tropical rain-forest at low to medium altitudes from the Himalayas to S. China, S.E. Asia, and Papua New Guinea. Simple or pinnate, variably shaped, light to dark green leaves are borne in terminal tufts above distinct crownshafts. Bowl-shaped, 3-petalled flowers are produced in spikes or panicles (erect at first, then becoming pendent) arising from the bases of the crownshafts. In frost-prone areas, grow in a warm greenhouse. In lowland, tropical areas, plant in a shady site near other trees or in a courtyard.
