description_en: Genus of 8 species of deciduous trees occurring in forest in E. and S.E. Asia, the West Indies, Central America, and tropical South America. They have alternate, pinnate leaves, each with a terminal leaflet, and produce axillary, umbel-like panicles of bowl-shaped flowers. P. quassioides, the most commonly grown species, is valued for its autumn foliage colour; grow in an open position in a woodland garden, or at a woodland margin.
