description_en: Genus of 3 species of evergreen sub-shrubs, related to Spiraea, occurring in screes or rock crevices in the mountains of W. North America. They are grown for their short, dense, spike-like racemes of tiny, fluffy, cup-shaped flowers, each with 5 overlapping petals, produced in summer, and for their neat, compact habit. They form dense mats or mounds of short, prostrate, branching shoots with densely packed, entire, inversely lance-shaped to spoon-shaped, leathery, hairy leaves. Grow in crevices in a rock garden, or in tufa, in a trough, or in an alpine house.
