description_en: Genus of 4 species of rhizomatous, monoecious, marginal aquatic perennials from marshland in E. North America. They have decorative, arrow-shaped or spear-shaped, glossy, mid- or dark green leaves. Tiny male and female flowers are produced on spadices, each surrounded by a longer, sometimes wavy-margined, green or white spathe; they are followed by clusters of green or red berries. Grow these creeping plants on the muddy banks of a wildlife pool or a bog garden; their horizontal surface rhizomes help to stabilize the soil. May become invasive.
