They have short rhizomes with clustered, fleshy roots and linear, hairless, greyish green, basal leaves. They are cultivated for their loose racemes, borne on slender stems, of trumpet-shaped, 6-tepalled, fragrant flowers, which are excellent for cutting. Grow in a mixed or herbaceous border.
