description_en: Genus of 2 or 3 species of evergreen or deciduous, bulbous perennials from moist, sandy but rocky areas at altitudes of 1,000-2,000m (3,250-7,000ft) in South America. They have false stems formed from the bases of the strap-shaped, keeled leaves, and are grown for their umbels of large, fragrant white spring flowers, resembling daffodils (Narcissus), each with 6 spreading outer tepals and an inner "cup". In frost-prone areas, grow in a temperate or warm greenhouse. In warmer regions, grow among small shrubs or in a border.
