description_en: Genus of one species of semi-evergreen, rhizomatous perennial found in moist beech woods in N.E. Turkey and the Caucasus. It produces long-stalked, basal leaves, glossy, dark green at first, becoming duller. Broad, terminal corymbs of 4-petalled white flowers appear just as the leaves develop; the stems later elongate so that the flattened fruit are held above the foliage. A slow-growing, ground-cover plant, P. macrophyllum is suitable for planting beneath trees and deciduous shrubs.
