description_en: Genus of 6 species of trailing, annual or perennial grasses from subtropical and tropical forests of Africa, Asia, Polynesia, and Central and South America. They have slender, rooting, leafy stems with flat, lance-shaped to ovate leaves, and bear one-sided racemes of insignificant flowers. Only O. africanus ’Variegatus’ is of decorative value; in warm areas, it provides excellent ground cover, and is also a useful edging plant; in frost-prone areas, grow as an ornamental plant in a hanging basket in a temperate greenhouse or conservatory.
