description_en: Genus of about 40 species of vigorous, deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs, and rhizomatous perennials, from S. and E. Asia, Malaysia, and North, Central, and South America, found mainly in mountain woodland. The striking, large leaves are simple or pinnate to 3-pinnate, and are sometimes covered in large bristles. Numerous white or greenish white flowers are borne in terminal panicles of spherical umbels or cymes, and are followed by spherical, usually black fruits. Aralias are suitable for a shady border in a large garden (to which they can lend an exotic air) or for woodland or a streambank.
