description_en: Genus of about 15 species of usually rhizomatous perennials, related to Primula, from the Himalayas and the mountains of China. They are grown for their solitary, horizontally borne, salverform flowers, with long tubes and 6-8 spreading lobes, borne in spring or early summer. The lance-shaped to ovate or elliptic, often white-hairy, primula-like, mid- to dark green leaves are borne in rosettes, and arise from a large, dormant winter bud surrounded by scales. They grow best in cool, moist climates; grow in a peat bed, shady rock garden, or in an alpine house.
