description_en: Genus of 45 species of submerged or marginal aquatic annuals and perennials occurring in wet ground, ponds, and streams, widely distributed but mainly found in the S. hemisphere. The foliage is highly decorative, with long, sub-merged, delicate stems and alternate, opposite, or whorled leaves. The sub-merged leaves are linear to oblong or rounded, and pinnatifid with fine, hair-like segments; the emergent leaves are entire or toothed, and lance-shaped to ovate or linear.
