description_en: Genus of about 300 species of woody-stemmed and herbaceous, deciduous or evergreen, twining or scandent climbers, allied to Eupatorium. They occur in tropical to warm-temperate regions worldwide in a broad range of habitats, from prairies and grassland to deciduous and tropical woodland. The usually opposite leaves are simple, and may be entire, toothed, or shallowly to palmately lobed. Hemispherical flower-heads, similar to those of groundsel (Senecio), lack ray-florets, and are borne in spikes, racemes, corymbs, or panicles. In frost-prone areas, grow in a temperate greenhouse. In warmer climates, grow in a woodland garden, use to clothe an arch or pergola, or allow to scramble through shrubs.
hardiness_en: Frost tender; M. scandens may survive short periods at 0°C (32°F).
