description_en: Genus of one species of clump-forming perennial occurring in light woodland throughout Europe, except the extreme north, as far as the Ukraine. It has leafy, square stems, bearing opposite pairs of leaves, and produces 2-lipped flowers in white, pink, or purple, or white with pink or purple lips, in whorls from the upper leaf axils. Grow M. melissophyllum in a shady, mixed or herbaceous border, or in a woodland garden. The flowers are attractive to bees.
