description_en: Genus of one species of evergreen shrub or small tree occurring in tropical forest from N. Africa to S.W. Asia and N. Australia. It has opposite, simple, entire leaves and large, terminal panicles of small, 4-petalled, fragrant flowers. In areas where temperatures drop below 13°C (55°F), grow L. inermis in a temperate or warm greenhouse. In warmer areas, plant in a shrub border or grow as a hedge. Widely cultivated in the tropics and subtropics, it is a source of the orange-red dye henna.
