distribution_en:

description_en: Genus of about 10 species of palms from Africa, Madagascar, the Arabian Peninsula, India, and Sri Lanka, occurring on poor or exhausted soils, often poorly drained, usually in hot, dry areas. Some doum palms are stemless, some have creeping stems; others are tree-like with branching trunks. The leaves are fan-shaped, and tiny, bowl-shaped, 3-petalled fiowers are borne in panicles between them. In frost-prone climates, grow doum palms in a warm greenhouse (they require very dry heat to thrive under glass). In dry, frost-free regions, grow the creeping and stemless species as ground cover and the tree-like ones as specimen trees.

hardiness_en: Frost tender.

cultivation_en:

propagation_en: Sow seed at 19-24°C (66-75°F) in spring; seed may be difficult to germinate.

pests_en: Red spider mites may be a problem under glass.
