They have erect trunks, swollen at the base or middle, topped by a cluster of pinnate leaves above a prominent crownshaft. Bowl-shaped, 3-petalled flowers are borne in solitary panicles beneath the lowest leaf. In frost-prone areas, grow in a warm greenhouse or conservatory; elsewhere, use in a courtyard garden or as lawn specimens.
